Charlotte Perriand

A French designer and architect whose furniture defined modern living — and whose years in Japan reshaped it. Perriand took the tubular-steel vocabulary of European modernism and let it meet bamboo, wood and the spatial economy of the Japanese house.

She is the hinge of this atlas's Europe–Asia story: a Parisian who learned to see through a Japanese line.
