Lee Ufan

Artist · South Korea

A central figure of Mono-ha, the Korean–Japanese movement that placed raw materials — stone, steel, glass — into quiet dialogue. Lee Ufan paints with restraint and arranges objects with even more: the work is as much about the space and silence around things as the things themselves.

His practice moves fluidly between Seoul, Japan and Europe, a living example of the axis this atlas follows.
